Free gin? You don’t have to ask us twice.
10,000 steps. The magic number that dates as far back as the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and the introduction of the pedometer. It’s been a goal for many of us to get 10,000 steps or more in a day, but sometimes we can’t always manage it or lack the motivation to get there. Plus, some days are just meant for lying horizontal.
Luckily, the offer of free gin from Liverpool bar, The Botanical Garden, may be the push we need to get up, move and reach that step milestone. The Baltic Triangle gin garden announced this week the return of their incentive, known as 10K Tuesdays, in which guests will be rewarded with a refreshing G&T after completing 10,000 steps or more.
The Botanical Garden posted on Instagram: “IT IS BACK! One of my favourite things we’ve ever done here was the 10k Tuesday’s, it was really simple and super fun, it saw lots more people getting up and out with friends and family and then coming here to celebrate.
“You get up on a Tuesday and get your 10k steps in and then you get 241 @beefeatergin and tonics to enjoy. We love being tagged in your walking photos to tell us where the good walking outdoor spots are!”
This gin-filled gem hidden away amid the warehouses and creative industries of the harbour area opened up their outdoor dining area back in April and it’s just the tonic after months in lockdown. Draped in fairy lights and decorated with an array of plants it’s a dreamy set up to enjoy a few drinks.
The Botanical Garden has also now opened up their greenhouse for extra seating and botanical vibes, and the walls of this space are also sprayed with eye-catching designs. However, it’s not all gin here (although their gin slushies are damn delicious) as the Baltic Triangle bar also serves up pizza, wings and fries from Pizzeria Miki, who happen to have a pizza topped with blue cheese, caramelised onions and Pringles crisps.
To claim a 2 for 1 gin, simply walk 10,000 steps around our beautiful city and have to do show your steps on your phone. And sadly there are no shortcuts- attaching your phone to your dog and letting it roam about doesn’t count or work. We found out the hard way.
One of the signature cocktails from The Botanical Garden in the past is the aptly named, Baltic Iced Tea, which includes Portobello Road Gin, Crème de Peche, fresh lemon, chilled Earl Grey tea, served long with a lemon wheel & peach bitters. The bar, which is walk-ins only, also has a gin of the week for you to try- so you can make 10K Tuesdays a weekly occurrence if you wish.
