The past couple of years have seen beer gardens and outdoor terraces become the destination du jour and it seems more outdoor spaces are popping up in the city suitable for all our post-lockdown soirées and sunny days out. One space that has returned to the city this spring is Sub Rosa, a welcoming hideout nestled in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle by the team behind The Botanical Garden, which is also back this season.
Sub Rosa has transformed the former warehouse area on Kings Dock Street into a haven for outdoor meet-ups, which features repurposed bus shelters into cute dining booths. The pop-up bar and events space has also created more outdoor seating in the form of tiered wooden steps and canteen dining stools with integrated tables. And as the night draws in, Sub Rosa’s fairy lights come on making for a magical evening set-up.
And the fun doesn’t just stop with the design, as Sub Rosa has its very own craft beer for you to try. The bar has teamed up with neighbours Black Lodge Brewery to create their own signature brew, which Sub Rosa describes as “a tasty crisp lager that goes well with good times and sunshine!”
To go alongside their original beer, Sub Rosa plays hosts to pop-up retail and food stalls including retail and food, with Root Catering serving up tasty grub from March 17, when the outdoor space reopens. Root Catering will be serving delicious street food to accompany the great booze and atmosphere at Sub Rosa including the likes of burrata arancini, bang bang cauliflower and all beef Vienna Frankfurter.
Plus, the bonus to this space hidden behind Black Lodge Brewery is that you needn’t have to book, as the outdoor space welcomes walk-ins on a first come first served basis. However, the space is also available to book for events, with more information on their website.
