October is shaping up to be pretty exciting in Liverpool, with new bars opening, Oktoberfest parties, and many more amazing things to do there. This city always keeps us on our toes and we love it!
1. Visit Tonight Josephine
Tonight Josephine is an unapologetically pink, and super-vibrant bar famed for its boozy bottomless brunches, and you can enjoy them in Liverpool this October. The huge location on Hanover Street serves the most decadent cocktails in the sparkliest of settings and you can read more about it here.
2. Listen to some spooky classics at Candlelight Halloween
The spooky season is upon us and if you’re wondering how to celebrate we have the perfect events for you. On Saturday, October 26 Sefton Park Palm House will be illuminated by hundreds of candles and decked out in Halloween decor for a night of Classical Compositions played by the talented String quartet – Rondino Strings.
The compositions played will include the Ghostbusters theme, ‘Hedwig’s Theme’ from Harry Potter and ‘Defying Gravity’ from Wicked. You can book tickets here.
3. Go see a vampire-themed musical comedy
If you’re looking for some culture this October then check out what’s going on at the Capstone Theatre. There will be a musical comedy, Part Vampire, exploring the life of an actor who, after a long career of doing small roles, ended up going for a major vampire role in a run-down film studio. You can get your tickets here.
4. Oktoberfest Party
During October, Bierkeller Liverpool will be hosting a massive Oktoberfest celebration, complete with authentic Bavarian fare such as pretzels, wursts, hog rolls and schnitzel. You can wash it all down with some delicious German beer and dance to the oompah band’s music, too.
There are vegan and vegetarian options available so don’t worry if you’re not a meat eater, and it’s definitely encouraged that you turn up wearing a dirndl or lederhosen.
5. Visit Liverpool’s Smallest Cinema
That’s right, Cafe Tabac movie nights are back! The pandemic closed the place in 2020 because this teeny tiny venue only accommodates 20 guests but they’re opening again and well and truly ready to entertain.
They’re kicking off the autumn season with some incredible cult classics like Withnail and I (my favourite), Trainspotting and The Big Lebowski. Not only is this place super-comfy, you can also enjoy some delicious hot dogs (veggie available) and fries alongside popcorn and big gulp drinks.
The screenings will take place every Wedensday at 7pm. Best of all, it’s free!
6. Gin & Rum Festival
This is going to be a true festival coming to Liverpool on October 26 at the Met Cathedral, with an award-winning DJ, free samples and unlimited mixers, and even a guide to tell you all about what you’re drinking. You get to take your very own festival glass home, too!
You can buy either day tickets from 12.30 pm – 5 pm or evening tickets for 6.30 pm – 11 pm and it will all take place at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, because where better to drink than in a church? You can buy your tickets here.
7. Events to mark Black History Month
Out of all the things to do in Liverpool this October, Black History Month is one to remember! There are tons of events going on across Liverpool to mark the month, including a whole host of exhibitions and even life drawing classes, arranged by National Museums Liverpool.
You can check out the full schedule of events running here but there are a few standouts.
There’s also an exhibition at the Museum of Liverpool, dedicated to inspirational black Scousers, and at the International Slavery Museum you can learn about the incredible Frederick Douglass who escaped slavery in the US only to write one of the most phenomenal diaries of all time. Actually, that doesn’t describe even a tiny part of his existence, so go to the exhibition please and there you’ll find a pretty comprehensive look into his life.
8. Attend a Halloween party at Liverpool ONE
Liverpool ONE is throwing a huge Halloween party on Sunday, October 27 between 11am and 5pm. The event is set to include live performances, competitions, spooky characters and entertainment for the whole family. Local drumming group Katumba is taking to the streets with their performances and even holding workshops for guests to learn their moves and even join a performance.
9. Have a night out at Liverpool’s newest disco and pop venue
Gloria’s has just opened its doors in Liverpool on September 27, being the newest addition to the city’s nightlife. As a cocktail lounge and a nightclub, the spot is set to be the place to go for disco and pop lovers. Expect creative cocktails, live disco bands and DJs with free entry, open Wednesday to Sunday, until 5am during the weekends.
10. Grab 2-4-1 cocktails and £5 pizzas
Revolution Liverpool got a glow-up, and you can now get 241 cocktails from their brand-new cocktail menu, alongside £5 pizzas, two mains for £10, £3.50 Pints and £5 Doubles, as well as shots from £1.50. So, you don’t have to break the bank to go out anymore!
11. Go to a Halloween Pup-Up Cafe with adorable dogs
Hallo-Ween Dachshund Pup-Up Cafe is back in Liverpool bringing lots of tiny sausage dogs together at The Florist Bar & Restaurant on October 20. Guests can socialise their puppies and just be in awe of all the cuteness with unlimited, free puppaccinos on offer throughout the sessions. Plus, there will be a doggy Halloween costume competition!
12. Attend this Halloween horror experience at an abandoned psychiatric asylum
Probably one of the scariest experiences in the UK, Newsham Scream Park promises plenty of scares and frights, with four new scare experiences this year. Explore the hospital’s narrow corridors and dormitories, as well as more hidden parts, not knowing who is going to greet you around the corner. Will you dare?
