With all the excitement of Eurovision 2023, Sam Ryder’s Eurovision 2022 performance may have faded into the depths of your long-term memory. Nahhh, we’re only kidding. As one of our writers says “sparkly jumpsuit, sparkling personality” and that sparkly jumpsuit is right here in Liverpool, right now!
You can go and visit the Space Man singer’s outfit to marvel at the outfit that shone at Eurovision 2022 and it’s definitely an outfit and a half. The only thing about it that confuses us is that they chose to pair it with trainers, but sometimes you have to trust that other people know better.
It’s encrusted with a whopping 15,000 beads and gems, which must have taken some time to sew! 210 hours, to be exact! Sam Ryder wore the impressive garment when performing in Turin, Italy and he said that his garb reflected a ‘turning point in music’.
He’s very pleased that it’s on display in Liverpool:
‘The process of writing Space Man with dear friends, the journey we went on as a team and the positive reception and result we received all culminated in a moment shared in this suit, and I couldn’t be more grateful it’s going on public display for Liverpool and fans around the world to enjoy. […] For me, it tells the story of a turning point in the competition for the UK and in my personal journey with music.’
It’s a very British outfit – stylist Luke Day drew inspiration from the likes of Elton John and David Bowie, after all. It’s on display at the British Music Experience, which is worth a visit any day. Make sure you don’t miss it, ahead of what promises to be the greatest Eurovision ever (because it’s in Liverpool).
