As the weather warms and the days grow longer, day trips are becoming more frequent for all of us. Our love for pretty villages here is evident, and a list of the poshest villages in the UK has been released.
The Telegraph has announced its selection of the poshest villages in the UK, dividing them by region. As a result, Hightown in Merseyside, just half an hour from Liverpool, was named one of the poshest villages in the country, with some of the highest property prices. The list also took into account a lively community, a thriving village hall, great pubs, local shops and sporting facilities.

Hightown earned its “posh appeal” for being a “quaint coastal village”, as well as its close proximity to Liverpool. Moreover, the nearby Sefton Coastal Path and the West Lancashire Golf Club are also big drawing points.
Median house prices are a whopping £358,000 in Hightown, boasting coastal views and Merseyrail connections to Liverpool.
As the village here is a pumping station on the River Alt at Altmouth, which joins the sea, it was built in 1972 to help alleviate flooding in the area.

Hightown also offers a pleasant day trip with plenty of stunning coastal walks, with dunes and wetlands bordering the Irish Sea. Wildlife enthusiasts can also enjoy some sightings, such as atterjack toads.
The village also boasts a strong community feel, with The Pheasant Inn pub and Hightown Club hosting events such as cricket, rugby, tennis, quiz nights, and yoga and Latin American dance classes.
“The appeal of village living has proved remarkably resilient,” says Frances McDonald, director of research at Savills. “Exactly what makes a village desirable varies by buyer, but a compelling mix of attractive surroundings, dependable transport, vibrant local amenities, quality education nearby, and strong digital connectivity is a decent definition of a ‘have it all’ village.”
