The fateful day has finally come when we no longer need to change in Chester when travelling to North Wales. Soon, passengers can travel from Liverpool to Llandudno on a direct train service, providing some extra comfort.
Currently, travelling to North Wales via public transport means one has to change in Chester. As a result, Transport for Wales is aiming to improve the region’s connectivity, introducing a direct train from Liverpool to Llandudno.
The journey times remain between 1 hour 45 minutes and two hours, yet it will make the experience much more convenient.

The new service is set to inspire more day trips to the stunning coastal town, offering stellar views and plenty of family-friendly activities.
When will the new direct service between Liverpool and Llandudno launch?
The direct train between Liverpool and Llandudno is set to launch in May 2026, with bookings already available with Transport for Wales.
Mayor Steve Rotheram said: “The Liverpool City Region and North Wales share deep historic, economic and cultural ties – and improved transport links will only strengthen that partnership in the future.”
“Creating better connections across the North West and into North Wales is a key part of our vision for a more joined-up, more productive economy. Through the Northern Arc, underpinned by the Liverpool–Manchester railway, we could unlock up to £90 billion in economic growth and support the development of around half a million new homes.”

First Minister Eluned Morgan said: “There are exciting developments ahead on rail in North Wales.
“With our £800m investment in new trains, the vast majority of TfW services in the region are on new trains. Improved links to Merseyside are on the horizon, with a direct train service between Llandudno and Liverpool, passing through Llandudno Junction.”
“There is a long shared history between North Wales and Liverpool, and these links can be further cemented with these improved transport links, which will be a boost for the economy.”
