Hidden within the northern Liverpool suburb of Fazakerley is a restaurant serving Latin food with a twist that’s got people talking. On none other than the online review site TripAdvisor that is. But luckily for this small independent food business, it’s brimming with five star reviews and an enviable rating.
NOSO, which opened in July 2020, is named after north and south paying tribute to the owners Jean D’Amico and Miguel Pereirais’ beginnings in the Northernmost country in South America. The restaurant aims to make you feel at home by bringing you a little piece of theirs through a fusion of Latin and European food, and it seems it has paid off.
According to TripAdvisor, NOSO is one of the top delivery restaurants in Liverpool, and diners have been quick to write their reviews of NOSO on TripAdvisor making it climb to the top of the list, gaining over 150 excellent ratings. The restaurant has beaten more than 1,400 Liverpool-based venues including Greek Taverna on Bold Street and Aldente Restaurant & Bar on Lark Lane to reach the top spot, but this isn’t the first time NOSO has become number one, as the restaurant was awarded the top spot back in September.
One customer said: “I heard about NOSO and knew I had to go as I have lived in Venezuela. I live over the other side of the Mersey, but this would not deter me from visiting again. Everything we ordered was delicious, my son and his wife said the chicken wings were amongst the best they have ever had.
“Everything was as I remember and the cheese made on site is fantastic! Will have to go back as we didn’t have the black beans because we were too full! Really affordable fab food!”
Another customer commented on TripAdvisor: “This is the second time myself and my partner have visited here. It’s such a hidden gem in the north of the city where we aren’t exactly spoilt for choice for good quality food. NOSO changes that.
“I highly recommend the “Let me see John” for a big portion of tasty Venezuelan flavours. The food is always cooked fresh and from scratch on site and you can really taste the difference. Staff are super friendly, don’t be afraid to ask them for their recommendations as they’re the pros. We’ll definitely be making this out regular brunch spot.”
NOSO serves banging breakfasts such as a “not so English breakfast” which is a typical full English with a black bean twist on it and a signature arepa instead of toast. You’ll also find “Let me see John”, a traditional dish that brings together all the different flavours of the typical Venezuelan cuisine, which features shredded beef, black beans, avocado, egg, sweet plantain, then topped with NOSO’s handmade cheese and an arepa.
The family of owner Miguel has been producing incredible quality milk and fresh cheese in San Cristobal, Venezuela since he was a little boy. Taking this passion and experience, Miguel now makes fresh cheese which feature in a number of NOSO’s dishes.
You’ll also find small plates like both savoury and sweet tequeños either filled with handmade cheese or Nutella; slow cooked sweet plantain; chicken wings; toasts, arepas; and sweet potato fries. Plus, you can take your pick from a range of empanadas (deep fried cornflour stuffed pastries) with fillings like cheese, beef or NOSO handmade cheese.
