Bringing a slice of Spain to Smithdown Place since 2013, the popular tapas restaurant, Neon Jamón, had to sadly close its doors in February 2020. Famed for its Catalan-inspired dishes, from croquetas to chorizo, patatas bravas to Padrón peppers, the Liverpool restaurant has recently announced that it will finally be reopening its doors after two years, but in a new location.
Neon Jamón has made a short move from its former home, taking residence on Smithdown Road, where it will be next door to its sister site, The Crafty Swine, a neighbourhood pub describing themselves as “a local swill and trough”. The pub, which opened this February, replaced TriBeCa and serves craft and cask ales, cocktails, breakfast, small plates and pizzetta with an assortment of toppings.
Taking to Instagram, The Crafty Swine said: “The moment you’ve all been waiting for! @neon_jamon is finally opening its doors in its new location, next door to us on 31st March @ 4pm! There will be NO bookings, except for 1 prime table which will seat 7-10 people. This will have two seatings 6.30pm & 8.30pm daily.
“Please do not try to book or ask to book for any tables less than 7. We are so excited to have Neon Jamon back in our lives as I’m very sure you are too (it’s all you’ve been talking about for months!)”
From March 31, Neon Jamón will be offering an array of tapas dishes for diners to feast on as well as serving classic Spanish drink of sangria alongside cava-based cocktails (think sparkling wine mixed with orange liqueur, cherry brandy, fruit and fizz). Guests will be able to tuck into a range of charcuterie like Iberico ham, cheese platters, as well as meaty small plates like chargrilled chicken skewers, Basque beef cheek cooked in Rioja wine for eight hours, classic Catalan meatballs in a tomato sauce (albondigas) and slow-cooked Iberico pork ribs with rosemary, quince and honey.
Diners at Neon Jamón will also be able to pick at the likes of fried goat’s cheese, tiger prawns in garlic and chilli, tempura squid and wild mushroom tostada. Plus, you’ll find the much-loved Spanish classics such as patatas bravas, Padrón peppers, tortilla and Iberico ham croquetas found on the Liverpool restaurant’s menu. And of course save room for dessert, as you can indulge in the likes of crema Catalana, chocolate mousse, Galician almond cake and churros.
