Taking place at Chamber 36 next to the city’s China Town, you’ll get to savour traditional and innovative, flavour-bursting dishes, inspired by Pan-Asian cuisine. Prepared only with fresh ingredients, the restaurant and bar is known for creative authentic Asian dishes with a twist. Mark your calendars for this ultimate enigmatic experience that will amplify the food on your plate!
What to expect at Dining in the Dark?
The special experience promises to elevate your meal to a whole new level, leaving just you, your taste buds and your sense of smell to enjoy a three-course meal. You’ll be given three options to choose to be highlighted by the chef, namely red (championing meat), blue (focusing on seafood) and green (accenting veggies). The dishes, sometimes, have playful names that might also give clues as to the dish, so keep your ears open for clues as well!
As you’ve probably guessed by now, since you won’t see what dish sits in front of you, you’ll be given blindfolds upon arrival and carefully be led to your tables and instructed by the restaurant’s waiters about the rules of the experience. Basically, Dining in the Dark let’s you get creative and approach the tasting as you want to, whether it’s using the cutlery provided by the restaurant, or getting messy and going in with your hands and fingers. As long as you don’t get too cheeky and try to peek at the food, everything else is allowed.
Certainly, this experience wouldn’t really make sense unless shared with someone. During these 90 minutes, things might get frantic, laughter will ensue and don’t be surprised if some secrets are revealed by your loved ones, too! Interestingly, darkness alters the way we not only perceive others, but also present ourselves to the world. Wearing a blindfold sometimes serves almost as a mask, allowing us to speak and eat more freely, without any inhibitions.
Where is Dining in the Dark?
Situated in the heart of Liverpool City Centre right next to Europe’s oldest China Town lies Chamber 36, a vibrant restaurant and bar, serving Pan-Asian cuisine with a twist. The typically generously portioned East Asian meals are served in a modern tapas style, from Chinese Dim Sum to aromatic Thai dishes. Inspired by the story of the Shaolin monk, who sought to reach the 36th chamber, said to give you inner peace in terms of mind, body and soul. Mirroring the legend, Chamber 36 also wishes to offer its guests a sense of harmony and tranquility, right in the heart of the lively city.
It’s received some rave reviews, too, since kicking off back in the summer last year, with previous guests saying:
💬 Aishlea S. – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Fantastic and well thought experience. Really had to rely on other senses to get your way through the table and manage to carefully grab your wine without spilling. Food menu was well thought out… Waitress Georgia was fantastic. Had a great time and would recommend to all”
💬 Devon P. – ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Fabulous from start to finish. Waiters were great and welcoming and then food was amazing! Definitely would recommend and can’t wait to come back!”
