Who doesn’t love a perfectly baked cake, cinnamon bun or croissant? While we’re always on the lookout for decent bakeries here in Liverpool, one particular establishment was met with extra recognition and the title of the best bakery in the UK recently.
The Wild Loaf in Dingle, Liverpool, was named the best bakery in the UK by The Good Food Guide, boasting freshly baked sourdough, cakes, croissants, cinnamon buns, pastries and viennoiserie.
The Wild Loaf shop opened its doors on Sefton Street in 2022, and is run by Jessica Doyle and Emily Sandeman, who have been in the sourdough business since 2017. The shop has seen immense popularity for a while now, with people travelling for miles just to get their hands on those fantastic baked goods, as well as forming queues outside.
The small shop was hailed for its cinnamon buns and the ever-changing selection of cakes and pastries by the judges. And, of course, the croissants did not go unnoticed. Both plain croissants and almond croissants received praise, as well as the spot’s decent coffee. Plus, the sourdough cheese toastie was the star of the show, being named as an absolute “must try”.
Jessica, 35, born and bred in Anfield, told the ECHO: “Emily and I met years ago, we’re friends. She made a big leap and left her job for this. The two of us have been at this for seven years. We started with the bread – bread was the thing.
“Then the bread has been the most organic, it’s led us to doughnuts and pasties, but that’s all self-taught. We’ve taught ourselves everything. This particular shop is the newest phase of the Wild Loaf. We’ve been going since 2017.
“We were led to this location because we wanted to keep it independent and wanted to keep it small. We’ve had people come and say they want to invest and maybe they could see it going bigger but we’ve always wanted to be the opposite of that – we want to be a small business.”
