As construction work is continuing on the Marine Lake Events Centre in Southport, located on the former Southport Theatre and Convention Centre (STCC) site, a completion date has now been announced for the project.
The 73 million pound Marine Lake Events Centre is set to become a new multipurpose events centre hosting entertainment shows, touring theatre acts, conferences, exhibitions and much more. After the work is completed in Spring 2027, the venue will also boast a water and light show on the Lake, the first of its kind in the UK.
After completion, the centre should also include a theatre and auditorium, an exhibition hall, a “Strictly Come Dancing-style” dance floor, a restaurant and a 180-degree view of the Marine Lake.
Next week will mark the commencement of the new access road to the Promenade and Waterfront Hotel, where a permanent construction site will be built. The “superstructure” construction work ise to begin, lasting approximately 44 weeks. Finally, the “high-level walkways” should begin to be built in March 2026.
When will the Marine Lake Events Centre be completed?
Construction work is set to be finished on March 31, 2027, while a full completion is expected for April 20, 2027.
Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram said: “Looking forward, the new Marine Lake Events Centre is an exciting opportunity for us to reinvigorate tourism and bring even more visitors to our shores. What’s essential now is that we rally together—businesses, councils, and local leaders—to ensure Southport not only recovers but becomes a shining example of what our region has to offer.”
Sefton Council Deputy Leader Cllr Paulette Lappin said: “Southport is a wonderful, welcoming place for everyone and that has been the case for more than a century. It is a town that has not only been a staycation staple for generations of families but also welcomes an impressive amount of international visitors year after year.”
