What is “We call it Jazz?”
“We call it Jazz” is a journey to a dimly lit, 1920s New Orleans speakeasy. Over the course of 60 minutes, the show will blend classics and improvisation mastery, all performed by musicians who clearly know their stuff. With a drink in hand, guests can relish in a celebration of the history, the legacy and the beauty of hot jazz and more subgenres. You might even spill your drink when the performers launch into a blistering rendition of Herbie Hancock’s “Cantaloupe Island”!
Jazz, its story and the show
How did jazz even become a thing? Well, it all started in New Orleans at the turn of the 20th century, a melting pot of cultures, where African rhythms and call-and-response songs mingled with European harmonies and Caribbean beats. From this vibrant mix emerged a sound like no other. Ever since those early days, jazz has always been about freedom and breaking boundaries.
“We call it Jazz” pays homage to this rich history, blending familiar favourites with spontaneous improvisations that will make your jaw drop. Hear echoes of jazz legends like Fats Waller when they play “Ain’t Misbehavin’”, or when they croon “Georgia On My Mind”. In jazz, the musicians don’t just go through the motions. They feel it, riffing off each other, and taking the music to unexpected places. Just like jazz itself, this show is all about the moment—raw, unfiltered, and utterly captivating.
Whether you’re a seasoned jazz aficionado or are looking for a fun evening plan, We call it Jazz brings something unique to Liverpool. As the groovy notes of timeless classics twist through the air, winding through the theatrical smoke, experience a one-of-a-kind evening of blues, ragtime and hot jazz.
There are two back-to-back performances every evening scheduled for 19:00 and 21:00. Doors open 30 minutes before the start of each show.
