Summer’s certainly here and so are the sunflowers! In 2020 the beautiful and super-Instagrammable Sunflower Maze in Preston opened to the public and now it’s opened again for 2022.
There you can weave your way through thousands of sunkissed sunflowers that reach heights of over six feet tall and fill a field measuring seventeen acres. It’s a great way to spend a couple of hours appreciating the warm weather with a bit of natural shade.
It’s completely free to experience the Sunflower Maze but donations are welcome, and all of the money donated by visitors will go to help those impacted by the war in Ukraine. The sunflower is the official flower of Ukraine, which is why you might have seen it around a lot on badges and posters over the past six months.
However, it will only open for a limited time – until the plants stop flowering. We usually enjoy sunflowers for a good few weeks in August, in the UK, so hopefully there will be plenty of opportunity for everybody to experience the maze.
You can even check out some of the tractors on your walk around the field this year, and the Sunflower Maze is open between 12 noon and 6 pm every day of the week. It takes around 45 minutes to make your way around the maze and dogs on leads are welcome too.
Once you’ve sauntered through the gorgeous blooms you can sit and have a coffee and some cake from the BlueJay Coffee Co. van, or even take a picnic of your own. Just make sure to bring appropriate footwear because it is, after all, a field, and we all know how muddy fields can get in the UK!
