This year just got a little bit brighter.
The days may be getting colder and darker, plus we’re in another national lockdown, however independent catering company SKAUS has come to save the day. Again. During the last lockdown earlier on in the year, SKAUS were bringing elegant Sunday roasts, including their legendary and crispy hassleback potatoes, as well as their infamous 24 hour cooked beef scouse served with soda bread and pickled beetroot.
Not only that, they fed 2,200 NHS key workers through the Meals for the NHS project since the end of April until the end of June. However, this time they’re back and with a brand new coffee shop and store on Allerton Road opening today (6 November).
The Nordic-inspired catering company, which is famous for its popular “scouse in a bread bowl”, began life hosting pop up events and attending various food festivals across the North West before it moved into Cains Brewery Village, in a restaurant residency above Dockleaf.
In February 2019 , SKAUS featured on hit BBC series ‘My Million Pound Menu’, before heading back to the Baltic Triangle for 12 months hosting SKAUS KAFE at events space, Camp + Furnace. Owned by Dan Cameron and Josh Lundon, their website said: “After nearly 4 years operating, SKAUS store & cafe is a culmination of all our hard work and the support of our customers and peers.”
The shop in Wavertree will stock natural wines, craft beer, organic veg, sweet treats and baked goods, ceramics and more. And you can definitely get your caffeine fix as the coffee machine will be on too for your takeaway brews. Plus, the venue hopes to also host weekly supper club evenings in the future, with SKAUS tasting menus and “crowd pleasers”.
On a recent Instagram post, SKAUS said: “Shopping local and shopping independent has never been more important. We really do need your support now more than ever as we open up in very testing times. We can’t wait for you to see the place. It’s been four years in the making for us, and we couldn’t be prouder of it.”
SKAUS Store & Cafe will be open Wednesdays to Sundays, 10am to 6pm, and is open from Friday 6 November for you to get your essentials such as coffee. And we can’t argue that coffee isn’t essential.
