Royal Albert Dock in Liverpool is getting a colourful makeover, with massive light displays introducing a new way to blend the art of storytelling and art – all with a stunning backdrop of our beautiful architecture.
Dock Shorts is the city’s new initiative, which marks a series of short animations projected onto the back facade of the closed Maritime Museum while it undergoes its transformation. Visitors can expect to witness a series of dynamic, visually stunning displays, located in the historic inner quay of Royal Albert Dock.
The project has kicked off on Halloween with its first stunt on October 31, and next up is a Remembrance Day-themed projection planned for November 9 and 11 between 5pm and 9pm. Blending creative flair with cutting-edge technology, the dock has now become a permanent canvas of a series of projections throughout the year.

The Dock Shorts features 14 unique light projections each year for the next two years, aligning with key calendar moments, such as Christmas, Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, and more major cultural events. The 20-second shorts revive the art of storytelling, encouraging community engagement, while also presenting exciting opportunities for brand partnerships and sponsorship.
Each piece of projection during Dock Shorts uses high-quality mapping techniques, providing an immersive experience for viewers. Evolving throughout the seasons and occasions, the programme champions Liverpool’s creative spirit whilst honouring the dock’s industrial heritage, delighting locals and visitors alike.
Jacob Loftus, CEO of General Projects, said: “This series marks an exciting new chapter for the dock, blending innovative projection technology with the rich heritage of the site. By showcasing a variety of seasonal and cultural themes, we aim to enhance the visitor experience, attract diverse audiences, and further cement the dock’s role as a vibrant cultural landmark in Liverpool.”
