You had me at rest.
Get booking because new restaurant Lerpwl is coming to Albert Dock. Ellis Barrie, the face behind TV food programme, Great British Menu, and his brother Liam, are launching their new restaurant down by the Liverpool waterside on Saturday 12 September.
Lerpwl, which is Welsh for the city of Liverpool, was named after the historical links between Liverpool and North Wales. Plus, the restaurant name ties into the brothers’ Liverpudlian roots and their debut restaurant, The Marram Grass, in Anglesey.
Ellis, who is also the new chef on the revamped Ready Steady Cook programme, and Liam, intend to bring plenty of fresh and fine ingredients to their menu, as well as using local and seasonal produce. If it’s anything like their Welsh restaurant, The Marram Grass, there is likely to be a lot of quality fish and meat, including charcuterie, on the menu. We are talking sustainably-sourced seafood from Cornwall, mussels and oysters from Anglesey, and home-grown pork and vegetables from The Fat Pig Farm, which the Barrie Bros also own.
Ox cheeks and soufflĂ©s are also on the cards for Lerpwl’s opening menu. Peeking at their Instagram, a sharing dish of roasted Turbot with pork, wild garlic sauce, almond and apple, as well as an indulgent sharing dish of dry aged roast duck is said to becoming to their menu too!
Originally planning to open earlier this year (cheers Corona), the 80 capacity restaurant is split across two levels. The main space downstairs wraps around an open kitchen and towards the back is a secluded cocktail bar called Margot’s. Lerpwl will also be offering fresh fish from the Oyster Bar and an A La Carte tasting menu in the restaurant.
If that’s not enough, up a slick spiral staircase is a private dining space called Albert’s. The space can seat up to 30 and has its very own private bar- perfect for a socially distanced occasion. On weekends, the restaurant will come even more alive with a DJ booth set up at the top of the stairs.
Reservations opened this week and based on their online booking system, tables are getting booked up fast. Lerpwl will open on the Britannia Pavillion at the Royal Albert Dock on Saturday 12 September and you can book a table here.
