If there’s one city that knows exactly how Christmas is done, it’s Liverpool – as evidenced by a brand new study which named the city one of the most festive in the UK. The study confirms that Liverpool puts the jingle in jingle bells and the jolly in holly jolly Christmas.
Undertaken by the team at boohooMAN, the research revealed exactly which cities were the best to visit during Christmastime, using a variety of factors – including ‘average monthly online searches for ‘Christmas’, ‘average amount spent on gifts per person during the Christmas period’ and ‘number of Instagram hashtags for local Christmas markets’ – when pulling together their facts.
Topping the scales for the highest amount of online searches for ‘Christmas’ and other related terms over the past 12 months, shows that us Liverpudlians are ready for the festivities and are on the lookout for gifts ideas, events, and more to get us into the Christmas spirit. Liverpool was also one of the cities in the UK with the highest chance of snow falling on Christmas Day (25%) alongside Leicester, Coventry and Sheffield.
Plus, the people of Liverpool apparently spend a whopping amount on gifts during the Christmas period with an average of £480.78 spent per person, just pipped by spenny Glaswegians who spend £500.12 on average. In this study, it was Manchester who stole the throne from other cities, with Glasgow coming overall second, then narrowly followed by Liverpool.
Scoring an impressive 62 out of 100 in the final rankings, Liverpool’s Christmas Markets came recommended from the findings, with many flocking to St John’s Gardens since its November 12 opening this year. Ranking least festive in the UK was poor old Nottingham, with Cardiff and Wakefield also trailing behind in the list.
